Lesley McInally Artist Statement

My current series of clay works examines the relationships between the natural land and ancient manmade structures, in the past abandoned, left to be transformed through time by the force of the elements and generations of human contact and interpretation. The relationship and interaction of landscape, seascape, weather and archaeological sites of Neolithic chambers, dwellings and monuments found in the Orkney Islands have been the predominant influence in my most recent body of work. What has become increasingly intriguing for me is the historical narrative encapsulated within and on these ancient monuments.

Ontario Arts Council

Thank you Ontraio Arts Council for the award to head to the ICS, Hungary for 1 month residency in 2018 as part of the Muscle Memory Symposium.

Delighted to announce that I was awarded the Craft Individual Grant from the Ontario Arts Council in February 2017.  This grant will allow me time to concentrate on a much anticipated project results of which will be documented and exhibited in a solo exhibition at the Shenkman Arts Centre in Ottawa in August.
